Advancing Intellectual Property Education in Technical Universities with the IPEDU Project 2023-09-19

We would like to introduce our stakeholders of the IPR4SC project to another Erasmus+ initiative in the field of Intellectual Property: the IPEDU project. We are sure that our readers will find value in exploring another project on this theme, as it provides a broader perspective on the efforts to advance Intellectual Property education and its significance in today's world.
The project is dedicated to advancing education in the realm of Intellectual Property (IP) within technical universities' curricula. IPEDU brings together 8 Universities and a consulting SME from 8 Programme countries and will focus on the European dimension of Intellectual Property.

This initiative focuses on equipping teaching faculty, support personnel, and librarians with the necessary expertise in IP. Europe has a significant role to play in promoting IP education among younger generations. Beyond raising awareness about IP rights, the project emphasizes enhancing knowledge about managing these rights within contracts and agreements.
The primary objectives of the IPEDU Project can be summarized as follows:
  • Enhancing the current state of Intellectual Property education.
  • Strengthening collaboration between universities and the business environment to foster knowledge exchange and co-creation in Industrial Property protection.
  • Aligning Industrial Property Law curricula with specific labor market requirements.
  • Minimizing disparities in Industrial Property courses' curricula at both national and European levels.
  • Introducing Industrial Property Law education into technical faculties.
  • Contributing to the professional development of teaching and support staff (librarians) in Industrial Property Law through short-term joint staff training events.

The IPEDU project will develop innovative teaching tools to empower staff with the skills needed to deliver Intellectual Property courses to technical university students effectively. University libraries will play a pivotal role in this endeavor by hosting Resource Centers for Intellectual Property. Partners involved in the project will collaborate to create a guide for establishing and equipping these centers. Support staff will receive training to organize Intellectual Property resource centers in libraries, source bibliographic resources, and educate library users on the fundamental aspects of IP.
