IP IN MOTION: Final conference

The conference, organized on 3rd April 2025, marked a significant achievement for the IPR4SC project. The event tackled important topics in the field of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) with a strong focus on sustainability and innovation. Bringing together 107 experts and stakeholders from across Europe, the event fostered a dynamic exchange of ideas aimed at turning intellectual property into impactful, sustainable innovations.

In today’s innovation-driven world, everything is IP — from digital solutions and creative content to sustainable technologies and business models. The more people understand its value, the more dynamic and significant the debate becomes. IPR is no longer just a legal matter; it's a powerful tool for economic growth, sustainability, and global competitiveness. This was the central theme at the IPR4SC Final Conference and the conclusion after the roundtable on "Mythbusting the Concept of IPR." At this panel, leading experts such as Dr. Maja Bogataj Jančič from the Open Data and Intellectual Property Institute, Assist. Prof. Giulia Priora from Nova School of Law and Andras Jokuti from the World Intellectual Property Organisation shared their insights and expertise on the complexity of IP and IPR. The speakers noted the discrepancy between the multilayered nature of IPR and the public's need for a simplified view. After the discussion, everyone left the conference with an understanding that demystifying the concept of IPR should also come with diligence in working with it.

Another highlight was the "IPR and Entrepreneurship: Unlocking New Pathways to Sustainable Innovation" roundtable, featuring Marijana Sarolic Robic, founder of the Croatian Artificial Intelligence Association, and Nina Mandl, representative of the Slovenian Intellectual Property Office, and Assoc. prof. Rannveig Edda Hjaltadottir from Nord University. The speakers debated the trends and obstacles entrepreneurs face when dealing with IPR and the tools and help available at their disposal. It was very clear that society still needs to work on raising awareness about IP and how it can revolutionise the EU start-up world.

The conference also shared valuable results from the project during the panels. This included materials from "IPR for a Sustainable and Circular Future" and the introduction of "IP-Monitor: A One-Stop Tool for IPR Excellence." The event concluded with thematic networking on IPR, sustainability, and innovation in Europe, providing valuable insights and fostering discussions about the existing work, research and projects that continue to push the field forward.
